PDF Watermark

Add a diagonal text watermark (e.g. CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT) to every page of your PDF.

Document owners marking drafts, confidential reports, or branded PDFs before sharing.

How to use it

  1. Upload your PDF

Add the PDF you want to watermark.

  2. Customise the watermark

Enter your text and choose the colour (grey, red, blue, green), font size, and opacity.

  3. Download the watermarked PDF

Click Add Watermark and download the marked copy.

Why use this tool?

A watermark across a PDF removes any ambiguity about its status and discourages misuse. Stamping DRAFT stops an early version being mistaken for the signed final; CONFIDENTIAL signals that a proposal should not be forwarded; and a studio name or copyright notice marks creative work as yours before it reaches a client. Doing this by hand in an editor, page by page, is tedious — especially on long documents. This tool adds your chosen text diagonally across every page in one step. Upload the PDF, set the watermark text, colour, font size, and opacity, and download the marked copy. It is built with pdf-lib and runs entirely in your browser, so sensitive documents are never uploaded. The watermark is embedded into each page’s content rather than added as a removable layer, so it cannot simply be deleted in a standard PDF reader.

Common use cases

Legal & compliance

Stamp drafts as DRAFT so they can’t be confused with final, signed versions.

Sharing proposals

Mark proposals and quotes CONFIDENTIAL before sending to discourage redistribution.

Photographers & designers

Brand portfolio PDFs with your name or copyright before showing clients.

Samples & previews

Add SAMPLE or PREVIEW to documents you share before payment or sign-off.

Internal documents

Label files INTERNAL or the version/status so their handling is unambiguous.

Frequently asked questions

Is the watermark permanent?

It is embedded into the page content, so it cannot be removed with standard PDF readers — unlike a simple annotation layer.

Can I choose where it appears?

It is applied diagonally across the centre of each page; custom positioning is not currently supported.

Does my file get uploaded to a server?

No. Watermarking runs entirely in your browser with pdf-lib, so your file never leaves your device.

Can I control how subtle it is?

Yes — adjust the opacity and font size for a faint background mark or a bold, prominent stamp.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Currently the watermark is applied to every page at once.

Can I use an image or logo as the watermark?

The tool applies text watermarks; for a logo, add it to your text-based mark or use a dedicated image overlay workflow.

Will it change the original file?

No. It produces a new watermarked copy and leaves your original untouched.

Is it free?

Yes — watermark as many PDFs as you like for free, with no account and no UtilKit branding added to your file.
